The Habsburg collection is one of the oldest continuously held mineral collections in Europe, so it shows what was considered worth collecting long before modern gem grading existed.

The museum states that registration is required for groups. At the time of checking the museum listed halls 29 to 32 as closed for building work; the mineral and gem halls 1 to 4 were not affected.
