A spectacular sapphire and diamond necklace, the Blue Belle of Asia
Price realised CHF 16,965,000 on the house page. SSEF 72359 (2 September 2014) and Gubelin 14090018 (11 September 2014), both Ceylon origin, no indications of heating. Discovered 1926 at Pelmadula, Ratnapura. Reported at sale as the highest price for a sapphire at auction. Circulating figures USD 17.29m, 17.3m, 17,305,996 (with a wrong Kashmir origin) and 17.7m are conversions or errors; the house figure is in francs.
