Crater of Diamonds State Park
Search a 37-acre ploughed field on the eroded surface of a volcanic crater for diamonds and other minerals, then take finds to the Diamond Discovery Centre for free identification.
The visit
Why it is worth the trip
It is a rare chance to look for diamonds in the volcanic rock that carried them to the surface, which is where any account of diamond origin has to begin.
Before you go
The park states that any rock or mineral you find is yours to keep. Tools can be hired at the Diamond Discovery Centre for USD 5 to USD 12 with a refundable deposit, or you may bring your own; ladders and motor-driven equipment are not allowed.
