Miners Heritage
Take a 40-minute guided walk through an underground sapphire mine, including a tunnel section dug in 1906, then buy a bucket of wash from the working mine and sieve it above ground.
The visit
Why it is worth the trip
Seeing the drives a stone was cut from, then washing the same material yourself, connects the underground workings to the parcel of rough that reaches a dealer.
Before you go
The mine states it is open 9am to 3pm and that tours are limited in size, with a booking form to be completed in advance; it describes the tour as suitable for all ages. For fossicking the site states that all necessary equipment is provided and that staff will show you how.
