Recut
Refashioning a finished stone to improve its colour return, symmetry or condition, at a deliberate cost in weight. Closing a window, lifting a native cut or removing a chip can raise value well beyond the carats surrendered. After any recut the old report is stranded: weight and measurements no longer match, so the stone must be re-certified or its own paperwork will read as a certificate mismatch.
