The Flame Queen, a rare and renowned red-on-black opal
Found 1915 at the Bald Hill Workings, Lightning Ridge; exhibited at the Geological Museum, London, in 1937. AGL CS36709 (9 January 2004) identifies it as natural semi-black opal with no evidence of treatment, while the lot title says red-on-black; both wordings are the house's. Sold for USD 120,000 including premium on the house page.
